Overview

The Junior College system in the post-war years opened Bogan Junior College in southwest Chicago, Fenger College, Southeast College, and Truman College (named for U.S. President Harry S Truman, 1884–1972), in the 1950s. Originally Truman was an evening program located at the city’s Amundsen High School.

Kennedy (1925–1968), Martin Luther King Jr. (1929–1968)), and Herzl J.C. was closed as a college and became an elementary school, with a new Malcolm X College at a different site (for Malcolm X, 1925–1965). In the 1970s, the former Fenger and Southeast Colleges were consolidated and renamed into Olive-Harvey College.

Job highlights:

Student activities promote student growth and leadership development and help to create a dynamic and engaging student campus life
Plans and executes student-centered activities and campus events in coordination with key administrators, student government, and recognized student clubs and their advisors
Conveys information and enforces CCC policies on organizational conduct process to Student Government Association (SGA), Greek organizations, and club leaders
Ensures SGA and student clubs comply with policies and procedures of the SGA and Student Club Operational Manual, Board of Trustee rules, and CCC’s strategic goals
Monitors student activities in Greek organizations (Phi Theta Kappa-Alpha Lambda Iota Chapter) to ensure adherence to relevant policies
Assists and guides continuing clubs in updating their status or reactivating organizations, and new clubs with the process of becoming registered student organizations
Assists the Director in coordinating and providing student leadership and club advisor training workshops
Review flyers, posters, and other materials prepared by student groups for on-campus distribution to ensure compliance with CCC rules and procedures
Participates in the development of marketing strategies to promote SGA, student clubs, and related recreational, social, and cultural student events to maximize student involvement
Processes paperwork and provides logistical support for student events including scheduling facilities and space, obtaining audio-visual equipment, and securing other resources
Performs related duties to support club advisors and the Director in directing and implementing student activities and events

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in higher education, student affairs, or a related field

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends, as needed
